Did you know we have 10 Trillion human cells, but 100 Trillion Microbial cells and 20,000 human Genes, but 2-2 Million Microbial Genes.
Which does ask the question how human are we? We share 99.99% DNA but only 10% of our Microbiome. The Human Microbiome is a truly fascinating subject.
According to Professor Rob Knight of The University of Colorado Boulder We need to know how to interact with Bacteria to survive on the planet. Which is a scary statement ,but very apt with the Ebola Virus threatening to become a Pandemic.
On a more positive note many of the Microbes living in our Gut are good bacteria and beneficial to our health and they play a role in our metabolism. We can also assist our Gut by keeping a healthy Microflora, by eating a healthy diet with foods that have naturally occurring probiotic. Probiotic means 'for life'.
It is best to steer clear of pasteurized probiotic added foods, as pasteurization will destroy many of the naturally occurring probiotics. Most of the "probiotic" yoghurts you find are not good choices as they're pasteurized. They also typically contain added sugars, high fructose corn syrup, dyes, or artificial sweeteners. Traditionally fermented food such as Sauerkraut are also excellent sources of vitamin K2, which is important for preventing heart disease. Cheese curd is an excellent source of both probiotics and vitamin K2.
Our gut naturally contains good bacteria and eating a healthy diet will help to keep it in good shape and if adding probiotics into the diet you need a range of probiotic cultures to have the best effect on the gut. Bio Yoghurt 's contains the probiotic cultures Lactobacillus acidophilus, LA-5®, Biphidobacterium, BB-12®, Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus, but the yoghurt we buy at the supermarket are pasturized so we have to question the benefits, but look for live Bio preferably natural with no added sugar.Raw yoghurt or Kefir is best you can make this or get it from farmers markets.
The huge marketing giants of the food industry are very clever at fooling us in to thinking
this is good for us, but read your labels carefully as they can be very misleading.
It is fundamental to our lives as humans to keep the healthy bacteria alive and kicking .
